The first of the new songs, "I Dare U", warns potential suitors about getting into a relationship with Star. The song is clearly a change from the tracks that were featured on Beauty Killer. It is more radio-friendly while still conserving that attitude we have come to love and expect from the artist. The only track on the project some fans may have heard already is "If It Kills Me", which Star released along with "Prom Night", a track to be featured on the upcoming EP. The song carries a sick beat and would have fit in perfectly with Star's previous releases. It is nice to see the artist choosing not to conform to everything else being released to radio. "In My Pocket" deals with lost love and features the backing vocals of an unknown female artist. Star sings "you gave me your love/ and I dropped it", a line the artist probably used many times before. The track uses AutoTune thoughout, but I still enjoyed the finished product. Star is growing as an artist, that is evident. For some reason I feel that I have heard "MisBehavin'" before, but I cannot put my finger on where or when. Has Star released this piece already? Anyway, the track is nothing too amazing compared to the songs that preceded it, but I do complement Jeffree's vocals and the progression and production are other aspects that needed to be recognized. My favorite of all the new tracks is hands down "Your Heart is My Pinata", ignore the silly, Mexican-inspired title that has nothing to do with the beautiful song. The track is a sweet, cute, love ballad that Star does not do very often. The vocal performance actually makes you forget of the artist's tough exterior. It makes me want him to find love, if that is what he really wants. Unfortunately, the following two tracks can be forgotten. On "Freakshow", Star seems to be just talking in front of a annoying club mashup beat and "Oh My God" is not much better. The song describes Star's sexiness, we are knew everyone wanted to have sex with him, but I didn't need an entire song about it. Finally, I am given another gift when a remix of "Prisoner" featuring my new obsession, Porcelain Black, closes the collection. Black is really taking over on the track as the two artists transform this unique love song into a duet. Both sound great and the notes that Black hits are more than impressive.
Even though this is not a full review, I wanted to give this collection that will never see an official release a chance because it shows the progression of an artist I truly admire. Star is not afraid to be who he is and say what you want, but I do enjoy his music. I have got to experience him live and he sounds exactly as he does on his albums. Many artists can claim that they do. If I were to give Shit You Weren't Suppose To Hear a rating, it would be an 85%, a bit higher than what I gave Beauty Killer. Listen to my two favorite tracks below and continue reading for more Jeffree news.
