Laid bare: Rihanna is the cover girl for Esquire's November issue, and she opens up about her ex Chris Brown and the attack upon her in 2009 |
It was the most disturbing celebrity split of the last decade, but Rihanna has revealed in a new interview that she's no longer angry with former boyfriend Chris Brown.
The 21-year-old is serving five years of probation after pleading guilty to felony assault for the attack on the pop superstar in the early morning hours before the 2009 Grammys.
But the singer told Esquire that harbouring resentment towards the R'n'B star 'was taking up way too much of my time.'
And she even revealed that she's pleased that her ex has found renewed success in his career after the attack tarnished his reputation.
It's a generous move from the hugely successful star, who is celebrating her 20th song, We Found Love, hitting the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart since she debuted in 2005.
The 23-year-old said: 'It was way too much anger. I'm really excited to see the breakthrough he's had in his career.'
Brown's latest album F.A.M.E (Forgiving All My Enemies) debuted at No1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in March, it went gold and has produced hits Deuces and Look At Me Now.
But it didn't look too good for him in the initial aftermath of the assault.
The album Graffiti, which was released ten months after the attack, was a commercial disaster, as his reputation took a nosedive in the wake of his terrible behaviour.
