I know a lot of beauty products are full of harmful and toxic ingredients. A person can't help, but ask himself, why do the beauty products need to be so harmful, if they seem to bring you so much fun. Whether it's putting on colorful lipstick or creating smoldering eye look. There's nothing I can do about it. I did however decide to try to put at least a few more natural products in my routine. Especially for my every day makeup.
Since my eyes were hurting the most, I decided to go for a natural mascara. Don't you hate when mascara dries on the lashes, and later starts to fall down? And god forbid, that you may be lying on the bed or couch, it just all starts to fall into your eyes. Then I want to get it out, my eyes get blood red and I end up taking it down. That was the main reason behind me buying natural mascara.
Enough of that. I heard good reviews about this on and since Lisa Eldridge also used it in a video - well, if she uses it, then of course, it has to be good! :) That's why I bought Lavera Double Black Mascara.
It has two sides. One side is volumizing and other side is lengthening. I bought it for 10.99€ and I got 5.5 ml of mascara. The amount is smaller than most of the drugstore mascaras and the price is higher than say, Maybelline mascaras, but on the same page as L'Oreal or some other drug store mascaras.
The brush for length, I am not a fan of, at all! It has rubber hairs and they are just too far apart for my taste. Which means - clumping the lashes. That is also why, I feel that, too much of the product gets in between the hair, leading to clumped lashes.
The brush for the volume is one of those "old school" hairs in a cone like positioning. I am also not a fan of those hair, but it seems to work just fine.
The formula seems to be the same on both sides. I have to say, wipe it down, before you use it. Especially in the beginning, because there will be too much product on the brush, as it is with most mascaras. I feel that it is pretty wet, although it dries fairly quick. It is also pretty black. I compared it with my L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes, which is in Extra Black and I found the Lavera one to be a bit more greyish than L'Oreal one. But still, in my opinion black enough.
Here are my eyes with no mascara.
As far as the application goes, I think it all comes down to a brush. Or at least, a lot! I seem to hate lengthening brush, because it does not separate the lashes, instead I feel it clumps them up, because the hairs are too sparse and too much product gets in between. Although, I do feel the brush spreads product to the end of the lashes, therefore making them seem longer, but clumped - in my case.
The volumizing brush is great. It separates the lashes and makes them look full. Not like most of the drug store mascaras, but enough for a natural mascara. The lashes seem to be a lot thinner than with the lengthening brush, but there seem to be more of them.
And here are my lashes with both applications. For volume and length.
I have to say some of the mascaras, were making my eyes water a lot, and it also made my eyes sting. I don't find that with this mascara. It feels very light on the eyes and doesn't seem to run into my eyes. That's why I like it - it's just a lot more sensitive on my eyes.
Recommendations: Less is more! I feel that mascara can clump very quickly, if you apply too much of the product. I also recommend waiting a bit between the coats, so the mascara can really dry, before you apply another coat. Find out which side is better for you and use that one. You can always switch brushes to go on the other side. I recommend it to anyone who want natural look of the lashes or someone who has very sensitive eyes.
