It's been quite some time since we heard from the talented Wynter Gordon, the dance goddess who brought us club-ready hits including "Dirty Talk" and "Til Death". Following the release of her debut album,
With the Music I Die, Gordon experienced a musical reinvention by showcasing an edgier indie sound compared to her initial dance roots with the two extended plays in her
Human Condition series last year.
These days, Gordon can be found with a five-person supporting band as part of The Righteous Young as she shows another layer of her creative artistic abilities with the premiere of new single "
Everything Burns", a grand ole, folk-like experiment that focuses its attention on the impressive, soulful vocals of Gordon and not upbeat, distracting production.
Said to be penned as an open letter to all the leading men in her life, the new track continues to shine light on Gordon's constant evolution. "
Right now it's raining, but you're gonna learn, playing with fire, you're bound to get hurt," she sings on the the glorious chorus which immediately surpasses anything on the radio airwaves at the moment.
In the accompanying music video, half professional quality, half handheld filming, Gordon and her band are seen frolicking in the wilderness, getting in touch with nature. Sporting a beautiful white dress and an interesting antler headpiece, the singer recites the somber lyrics of the soul/pop effort. It's a unique, artsy visual which does not take away from the powerful song or Gordon's performance.
She's assisted Flo Rida on "Sugar", ruled the Billboard Dance charts, penned songs for Jennifer Lopez and Ciara, and now Wynter Gordon, now with The Righteous Young, is ready for the next stage in her career. "
Everything Burns" may just be her strongest release to date.
